Pool before a deep clean in North Texas heat

Deep Cleaning

How Often Does a Pool Really Need a Deep Clean in Texas Heat?

July 13, 2026

Weekly maintenance keeps a pool running day to day, but it isn't the same thing as a deep clean — and in Texas heat, the gap between how long you can go between deep cleans is shorter than most homeowners expect.

Why Heat Speeds Everything Up

Warmer water grows algae and bacteria faster than cool water, plain and simple. It also burns through chlorine more quickly and, in a region with as much tree cover and pollen as DFW, pulls in more organic debris that a quick skim doesn't always fully catch.

Signs Your Pool Is Overdue

A few reliable tells: water that stays cloudy even when chemistry tests fine, steps or walls that feel just slightly slick to the touch, staining creeping up along the waterline, or filter pressure climbing faster than it used to between cleanings. Any of these usually means routine maintenance has reached its limit.

A Reasonable Rhythm for DFW Pools

As a general guideline, most pools in this area benefit from two to four deep cleans during peak season — roughly May through September — on top of regular weekly maintenance. Pools under heavy tree cover, with frequent swimmer use, or that have gone a full season without one usually need to be on the more frequent end of that range.

What's Actually Included in a Deep Clean

  • Full brushing of walls, steps, and corners
  • Filter deep-clean, backwash, or cartridge replacement
  • Tile line scrubbing to clear scale and buildup
  • Vacuum-to-waste if algae has taken hold
  • Shock treatment to reset chemistry afterward

If it's been a while since your pool had more than a weekly skim and balance, a deep clean is usually a faster and cheaper fix than letting it slide into a bigger problem.
